Well its an empty forum, but my Mums first ever car was a Riley Kestral, f reg apparentlly?? i dunno. Wooden dash and everything, 1300 engine, and even a radio/cassette player!!!! and she says it was gorgeous and if she found one today she would have it without a blink of the eye........Money no object of course!!!

The Kestral is fairly rare now, not as common as the MG or even the Wolseley versions, but not quite as expensive as the VDP 1300.
Have a look at the links here:

The 1100 Club has a regular monthly newsletter and there is also a forum dedicated to the 1100, so you never know, you could surprise her and find her a nice Kestral...

The Kestrel is another ADO16 variant?

Blimey, I'm beginning to appreciate the concerns of badge engineering now

I've seen a few Riley Elf's on eBay... another great example of badge engineering!

I wonder who owns the Riley name now?

BMW still own the Riley name!

Yup, Rob, the ADO16 was perhaps the worst case, with Morris first followed by MG, then Austin, Wolseley, Riley and VDP.
It also surfaced as a the Austin America in the US, and as an Innocenti version in Italy, as well as as some Authi assembled versions in Spain. The cars were also assembled in South Africa, and Australia.

Later, the platform went on in the South African Austin Apache, and then this was sold to the Spanish as the Authi Victoria. In addition, Australia got a 5dr version with 1500 OHC E series engine as the Nomad.

Basically, as far as Riley was concerned, the company had been bought by Nuffield and was kept largely as a separate brand although the downfall probably came with Gerald Palmer's design of the Riley Pathfinder (aka Ditchfinder) based on the Wolseley of the time. By the early 60's though, the Riley fan base must have been muttering under their breath when the Kestral and Elf (both pre-war Riley names) appeared.

Hi Keef, nice to see you over here from ADO16 Forums. I should apologise, I think we should be spelling it right, it's Kestrel!

Blame the typo in the first post, which everyone else copied.
