More than 200 needy London youngsters were treated to a taxi ride with a difference – a two-night outing to Disneyland Paris.
The annual Children’s Magical Taxi Tour is organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers for young people being treated for life-threatening illnesses.
After a breakfast at Canary Wharf, they piled into nearly 100 black cabs and set off in convoy for France, via Dover.
Since the trip began more than 12 years ago, Coventry-based LTI Vehicles, which makes the famous London taxis used to take the children there and back, has contributed to the fuel costs of the trip, this year handing over a cheque for £5,000.
LTI Vehicle Sales and Marketing Director Matthew Cheyne was at Canary Wharf to see off the three-mile-long convoy.
“This is a very special event in the calendar and all the drivers give their time and cabs to make it happen. It is only right that we do what we can to support them and make sure the whole event is a great success,” said Matthew.
“The whole trip means so much to the children and their families. It is good that we can help in this way.
“We would once again like to say a big thank-you to all the people who helped to organise such a wonderful event.”
