Edinburgh passengers first to get into TX4

Proud cabbie David Hamilton is one of the first drivers in the world to take delivery of the next generation of purpose-built London taxi.

The TX4 was launched just three weeks ago by manufacturer LTI Vehicles but can already be hailed on the streets of Edinburgh thanks to David who purchased the latest generation taxi from Patons of Edinburgh.

Coventry-based LTI Vehicles is the largest British-owned vehicle manufacturer and the country’s premier manufacturer of purpose-built taxis.

Its new addition to the roads – which retains the distinctive London taxi shape but features a raft of new features inside – is already making an impact on drivers and passengers alike.

The TX4 has a lower-emissions, Euro IV compliant VM turbodiesel engine, giving a cleaner, quieter ride. It features anti-lock brakes as standard, has been upgraded for more comfort inside and has an eye-catching new front grille.

And it retains the full range of accessibility features, including an integral wheelchair ramp, brightly-coloured grab rails and induction loop that have helped to make previous TX models so popular.

David who purchased his vehicle from Patons in Edinburgh, official dealer for LTI Vehicles, said: “I always buy the purpose-built cabs because I am guaranteed quality and durability.

“My previous cab was a TXII, and the TX4 is an even better version of that. It keeps the famous London taxi shape but, in comparison, is a better vehicle to drive. My first impressions are that it has a better gearbox, suspension and increased power. It is overall a much better vehicle.

“I need vehicles that are reliable and durable as this is important for my business. I like the fact that I drive a respected and easily-identified vehicle - that means a lot to the general public.

“To be honest, it was really exciting when I was test driving my new cab. It is a beautiful vehicle.

“I really like the new design overall – it is sleeker but unmistakably a London cab that the public can recognise. It is also better for the environment and that is good.

“I will tell my passengers that they are privileged to be driven in the new generation TX4 and hope they enjoy their journey as much as I enjoy driving them there.”
