London taxi helps unveil new-look Coventry Transport Museum
The latest version of the world-famous London taxi lined up alongside a top-of-the-range Jaguar and sporty Peugeot to help relaunch Coventry Transport Museum.
LTI Vehicles – the Coventry-based manufacturer of the familiar "black" cab – was invited to attend the celebration dinner at the museum after the completion of a £6.9 million redevelopment, and to display a vehicle from its range of traditional, London-style taxis.
The Gold specification TXII, the latest incarnation of the familiar London taxi, then lined up alongside Jaguar and Peugeot to showcase local engineering excellence.
The launch saw Sir Digby Jones, Director General of the CBI, toast the continued expansion of Coventry’s Transport Museum, which houses one of the most historic collections of vehicles in the UK.
Matthew Cheyne, Sales and Marketing Director with LTI Vehicles, who attended the dinner along with other representatives from the company, said: "It was a great honour for us to be invited and shows how revered the London taxi is.
"It is an icon of British motoring, recognised around the world and, as such, it was important for it to be involved in this event, particularly with Coventry being its home.
"The evening was fantastic and the new facilities at the museum will ensure its continuing popularity as one of the country’s premier motoring centres."
The expansion has seen the museum, in Coventry’s city centre, grow to 13,000 square metres. Facilities now include a new motorcycle gallery, refurbished Landmarques Gallery, new commercial vehicle gallery, new education suite and "technocentre", and a new archive with library resource centre.
