Courier’s cab adds a splash of colour
A specially-painted London taxi is being used by a leading courier firm to boost its image while ferrying around its VIPs.
DHL bought in the LTI Vehicles TXII to carry guests and senior management to meetings and on airport runs.
And it has caused a bit of a stir among potential passengers left waving on the roadside when they have tried to hail it!
The bright-yellow taxi is a regular on the streets around DHL’s HQ in Hounslow, Middlesex, and tourists in central London regularly stop to snap a picture of the eye-catching executive transport.
Caroline Smith, Site Services Manager at DHL’s Orbital Park head office, said: "The London taxi is a design icon recognised around the world.
"Senior DHL managers who visit us from overseas – be it the US, China or Europe – often tell us that being collected from Heathrow in a bright yellow London taxi is the highlight of their visit to the UK!"
The TXII Gold specification is actually the third taxi the company has used, starting with a Fairway before moving up to the later TX models.
The international parcel firm decided to pick a taxi rather than a more traditional executive luxury car because its recognisability and world-famous looks reflected its own image.
Matthew Cheyne, Sales and Marketing Director with Coventry-based LTI Vehicles, which makes the iconic cabs, said: "This is a cab that definitely stands out in a crowd!
"While there are thousands on the road, DHL has the distinction of being one of the few companies who privately own and operate a taxi.
"The latest refinements in the TXII mean that it gives the smoothest, most comfortable, safest ride yet – like any other executive car – so it is natural that DHL use it in this way."
