London-style taxis are the cab of choice for advertisers

Advertisers looking to mount campaigns on the sides of taxis prefer using London style cabs to any other vehicle.

In an increasingly competitive marketplace, the traditional style, purpose-built taxi is in demand as companies realise that the LTI Vehicles taxis are the perfect way to get their message seen by the most people.

And it is helping cabbies top up their income by an average of more than £1,000 per year.

"It is very difficult to say what the industry is worth these days but probably, nationwide, you are looking at about £12 million, with the potential to be much higher," said Andrew Barnett, managing director of London-based taxi advertising specialist Ubiquitous.

"Advertisers do prefer to use the traditional-style LTI taxi for their campaigns. It is definitely more popular than other types of vehicle. I think there is a comfort factor with that style of cab. People know it and are familiar with it.

"It is also very much a generic shape and, from a creative standpoint, there is uniformity in the design. A company knows they only have to come up with one design which is going to fit a whole fleet of vehicles rather than tailoring it to different models. "

Drivers can take advantage of several different levels of advertising, including a full wrap, tip up seats or side panels only, to boost their income.

Ubiquitous is one of the fastest growing taxi advertising specialists in the UK with vehicles in all major cities.

Matthew Cheyne, Sales and Marketing Director with Coventry-based LTI Vehicles, manufacturer of the purpose-built London taxi, said: "People like using the TXII, the latest version of the familiar London taxi, because they are getting an instantly recognisable vehicle that is widely used around the country.

"They can see exactly how a design is going to look on the vehicle and so be confident it is going to be the same wherever it is seen rather than having to alter the design to fit different vehicle models.

"Using taxis for advertising is not a new concept but it is one where both advertisers and drivers alike are increasingly recognising the long-term benefits. For the client, it gives instant, widespread exposure and for the driver, it helps to boost their income."
