MG is Officially Launched in China!
By TechnoGoat at 2008-06-08 23:28
Its been 2 years in the making, but Nanjing Automotive Corporation (NAC) has finally officially made their official launch of MG in China. MG is set to launch once more, but with only 2 models, the MG TF and the MG 7.

A 45 minute streaming video of the conference was sent out during the early hours of this morning, which shows a deep commitment to the history and heritage of MG as a brand. Much of the conference was naturally in Chinese, but within the English spoken parts we heard words of praise being read out from a letter written by UK Deputy Prime Minister John Prescot, who congratulated them on their achievement and emphasised his looking forward to the return of production at Longbridge.

After around 20 minutes the English spokesperson, a former MG-Rover employee, re-iterated that MG was a brand that has always been committed to motorsport, with MG Sport 'n' Racing logos being displayed, possibly implying that MG intends to enter motorsport again in the future?

About a minute later, the MG enthusiasts of the ages get a mention as well, again enforcing that buying an MG doesn't just get you a car, but also a friend. As part of this, it was mentioned that MG owners also take their cars on track and this was again part of the MG ownership experience.

All this seems to show that NAC and all involved are keen to make MG work and to invest a commitment to MG owners around the world, building upon a reputation that MG has with the largest single-marque owner following in the world. The cynical among us might suggest that this is just a ploy to get MG enthusiasts around the world interested in buying what is for the most part, a pair of decade old cars, which are almost identical for their launch in 2007 as they were at the end of production in 2005.

Well, this may be true, but we must also not forget that the cars that ended production in 2005 are no longer compliant with current legislations in Europe. So what does this mean? Well, in this authors opinion, it means that the previous generation of cars are being built and will be sold in China as they are as they still meet Chinese legislation and are a totally 'new' car to them (with the exception of the SAIC Roewe 750), but whatever is launched in Europe will have some further work made to them before launch, with a well speculated facelift to the TF and the revision to the height of the front of the MG 7.

Both cars are supplied with the new N-series engines, based upon EuroV legislation revisions and other rumored enhancements to the well acclaimed (and criticized) K-series engine, with the 1.8Turbo engine confirmed.

With thanks to the Chinese website http://auto.sina.com.cn for providing a live stream and to our very own TechnoGoat we now have a copy of this live stream available for you watch - enjoy!
