Three rare MG-Rovers in time-warp condition were sold by BCA on behalf of car retail group Inchcape just before Christmas.
The three ‘as new’ examples from the manufacturer’s 2004 range were sold on 0757 plates at the Blackbushe auction centre on Friday, 21 December. The cars had been in storage since MG Rover collapsed in 2005 and were never previously made available for sale.
All three cars were scarce or unusual examples, with the Rover 75 V8 arguably being the most desirable. Powered by the Mustang 4.6 litre V8 engine, it sported a revised deep front grille that made it stand out from the 4-cylinder and V6 versions. The model on offer at Blackbushe was finished in dark metallic blue with leather interior and sold for £16,000.
The Rover 75 Limousine was one of a limited number produced on the long-wheel base version of the 75 chassis. Finished in light metallic grey with dark grey leather interior, it sold for £13,400.
The MG TF 160 was the performance flagship model of the sports car range, delivering 160 brake horsepower from the 1.8 litre mid-mounted engine. The example on offer at BCA was finished in metallic blue with black hood and leather interior, and sold for £11,000.
The cars were auctioned by Blackbushe Manager James Gibson, who commented “These three cars generated a huge amount of interest with MG and Rover enthusiasts and collectors from the UK and overseas. Sales such as this underline just how evocative the Rover and MG brands have become in a relatively short time.”
